This Norwegian workation inspires 'philosophical genius'

Up Norway, a curator of sustainable luxury travel experiences in Norway, has unveiled a unique offering: a Wittgenstein-inspired workation.
The five-night retreat is designed to "inspire philosophical genius" by providing creatives and thinkers with an environment reminiscent of the one that inspired Austrian philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein during his time in the Scandinavian nation.
Wittgenstein, widely regarded as one of the 20th century's greatest thinkers, sought inspiration in the remote Norwegian fjords, specifically in the Skjolden region.
His work on cognitive semantics has become increasingly relevant in the age of artificial intelligence and machine learning, forming a foundation for technologies such as ChatGPT.
The workation package anchors participants at Nes Gard, a family farm and guesthouse dating from 1850 and located near Wittgenstein's former retreat.
The property lies adjacent to dramatic fjords, mountains and waterfalls, all of which can be observed from its private terrace.
The experience includes a private guided visit to Wittgenstein's cabin, as well as activities such as forest bathing or a guided nature hike tailored to individual preferences.
A private harbour fjord sauna session is also on the cards, allowing guests to reflect while immersed in the natural surroundings.
Additional nearby activities include cycling, waterfall hikes, RIB adventures on the fjord, paddleboarding, and of course, curated time for contemplation.
Torunn Tronsvang, CEO of Up Norway, says: "We've designed this experience to provide a serene environment that fosters deep thinking and creativity, much like the landscape that inspired Wittgenstein himself."
The package starts at US$3,452 per person and includes a five-night half-board stay, a Wittgenstein book, guided experiences and meals.
While May and September are considered optimal times for the workation, the company can also arrange visits in October with some modifications to the dining arrangements.
Up Norway provides guests with a comprehensive digital guide prior to their trip, complete with insider tips and recommendations. The company also offers 24-hour support via chat for any queries during the stay.
