A ‘high design landscape hotel’ in the middle of Mexican desert, Paradero Todos Santos offers Temazcal ceremonies, stargazing and taco tours. Rose Dykins reports
Set to open in February, Paradero Todos Santos will provide a guest experience that revolves around immersion in the great outdoors, connecting with others and indulging the senses.
The natural beauty and captivating culture of Todos Santos have led to it being named a pueblo magico (magical town). It lies within reach of world-renowned surf break Playa Los Cerritos, as well as the village of El Pescadero.
Paradero Todos Santos itself is set within the historic La Mesa farming community, nestled between 16 farming plots. It is designed to blend with its natural surroundings of open farmland and desert strewn with a dense jungle of cacti.
As its website describes: “Our walls were designed to disappear into the background, blurring the line between indoor and outdoor living.”
Meanwhile, Rooftop suites come with suspended “star nets” for lying upon while gazing up at constellations, and some come with telescopes and fire pits. (Globetrender predicted that “Celestial Escapes” would be a trend for 2021 and its report on Travel After 2020.)
Each suite features calming, earthy tones, natural textures and handmade Mexican furnishings, and has an indoor/outdoor shower.
The Ojo de Agua spa – modelled on a secret watering hole in Todos Santos – offers guests personalised wellbeing treatments centered on national rituals, such as sound healing and Temazcal ceremonies.
The hotel’s sleek infinity pool provides a striking view out towards the desert, while more than 60 endemic species of plantlife are grown in the on-site botanical garden, which has been paved with sandy paths for barefoot walking.
There’s also a living room area with curtains instead of walls, where hammock and floors cushions invite guests to socialise in comfort while enjoying a cocktail and live music.
Private dinners can be held on the property’s beach or farmfields, and activities such as surfing and ATV tours can be arranged for groups seeking adventure.
