From glamping in the Sahara to rainforest lodges in Costa Rica, Much Better Adventures has designed a series of ‘Comfy Sleeps’ itineraries. Rose Dykins reports

Adventure travel operator Much Better Adventures has launched a range of multi-day trips that pair experiences in wild places with unique, boutique and locally owned accommodation.

The 22 Comfy Sleeps trips – ten of which are new itineraries – are underpinned by recent research from Much Better Adventures, where the company surveyed 1,900 customers through nine focus groups about their post-pandemic travel plans.

The research revealed that 68 per cent of respondents – typically professionals of an average age of 37 – expect to book four or more weekend getaways and longer duration trips within the next year. The survey also found that many people are more prepared to treat themselves and spend a little more on their holidays.

“In particular, 60 per cent said they were prepared to pay extra for nicer and more comfortable accommodation. This is something our customers have indicated to us in the past and so we are delighted to launch our new range of ‘Comfy Sleeps’ adventures.

“Longer duration adventures like these are a key part of our mission to build the world’s most positive impact travel company and this new range allows us to even better support local economies and protect wild places.”

The Comfy Sleeps itineraries encompass wilderness-based activities such as wild camping and stays in remote mountain huts as well as more luxurious accommodation at heritage and boutique hotels, jungle lodges, rainforest hideaways, luxury safari camps, former palaces, floating bungalows, traditional riads, Arctic domes and beachside retreats in idyllic settings.

The 22 trips within the range include Costa Rica, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, India, Tanzania, Kenya, Morocco, Norway, Jordan, Portugal, Romania, Greece, Italy and South Africa.

All adventures include a mixture of activities that suit all experience levels including hiking, cycling, kayaking, rock climbing, wild swimming, snorkelling, walking safaris, stand-up paddleboarding and yoga. Ranging in length from eight to 14 days, the Comfy Sleep adventures are priced from £1,407.

Among the ten new itineraries in the Comfy Sleeps portfolio are the ten-day Roam the Ancient Cities of Morocco and Glamp in the Sahara adventure, where travellers are immersed in historic cities and cultural sites amidst Morocco’s mountains and vast deserts.

Another is the nine-day Cycle the Backroads of Rajasthan trip through India’s desert state via temples, tigers and the Taj Mahal (departing from September through to April).

Another new itinerary is The Ultimate Costa Rica Adventure which involves ten days of hiking, rafting and kayaking pristine rivers, lush mangroves and looming volcanoes, then sailing and relaxing on the beaches of the palm-fringed coast.

And there’s also the ten-day Safari to Sea Adventure in Tanzania and Zanzibar where travellers can spot wildlife in Tanzania’s nature reserves and sail and snorkel the glittering waters of the Indian Ocean.

Much Better Adventures was founded by Alex Narracott, Sam Bruce and Guy Bowden with the goal of building a global travel company that could play a significant role in the fight to protect the world’s wild places.

Seeking to build the world’s most positive impact travel company, its trips are run by expert local hosts in more than countries, with per cent  of revenues (as opposed to profits) supporting rewilding and reforestation projects.

Much Better Adventures also co-founded the Tourism Declares movement in 2020, which led to the Glasgow Declaration at COP26, to enable everyone in tourism to implement the Climate Action Plans needed to halve sector emissions by 2030.
