The Amilla Maldives will host the ‘world’s first’ resort-based perimenopause and menopause retreats for female travellers. Jenny Southan reports

Led by renowned naturopath and wellness coach, Claire O’Sullivan, the Amilla Maldives will be running five-day perimenopause and menopause retreats from June 23 to July 7, 2022.

The personalised wellbeing journeys will “explore natural ways to boost female hormones while empowering women to manage their symptoms through movement, nutrition and mindful activities”.

The Amilla Maldives says: “Many women find it daunting to navigate changes in their hormones during perimenopause and menopause, and the unpleasant symptoms that come with it – which can include hot flushes, mood swings, sleep disturbances, brain fog, weight gain and anxiety.

“In the company of supportive women and a team of expert practitioners, Amilla Maldives’ carefully curated Perimenopause and Menopause Retreats have been developed to give women the tools they need to adapt to these changes in a healthy and positive way, enabling them to tune into their body’s rhythm and renew their energy.”

Activities will include yoga, dynamic meditation and Pranayama breathwork to help manage symptoms and promote deep sleep. There will also be talks and discussions to demystify the perimenopause and menopause, as well as “sufi whirling meditation” and “intuitive dance” sessins to boost mental clarity.

Balanced wellness meals and workshops on eating well will be provided to support hormone transitions and weight changes. All guests will get a choice of vegan/vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free, low-carb/keto/paleo meals at all dining outlets, plus drinks made with probiotic sodas and sugar-free ingredients.Amilla FushiThe Amilla Maldives’ sustainability and wellness Mentor, Victoria Kruse, says: “Knowing what is happening within your own system leads to a deeper understanding of what works, and what doesn’t work for you, and allows you to find ways to adapt to this natural biological process with more ease and balance. Being able to talk about what is happening with others was truly a key for my journey.”

Exploring and supporting individuals’ menopause journey, the five-day retreats include a one-on-one consultation with Claire O’Sullivan; specifically designed daily wellness activities and group activity sessions; one foot reflexology treatment (60 minutes); one Intuitive Aroma massage (60 minutes); one craniosacral therapy; five personalised sensora light therapy sessions; and free access to steam and sauna facilities at the resort’s award-winning Javvu spa.Amilla FushiParticipants of the perimenopause and menopause retreats are also invited to join the team at the resort’s H.U.B diving and watersports centre for a chance to swim with manta rays.

Recently teaming up with NGO the Manta Trust to become an official Manta Trust Responsible Operator, the Amilla Maldives says it is “committed to do more to help protect the manta and mobula ray population, ensuring guests are educated on sustainable manta tourism”.

The Inspiring Travel Company offers five-night Perimenopause/Menopause Retreats at the Amilla Maldives Resort and Residences from £4,839 per person – saving £810 per person.

The price is based on two adults sharing a Treetop Pool Villa and includes the five-day retreat programme of activities and treatments; a 30 per cent discount on accommodation; daily breakfast; shared seaplane transfers; and return economy flights from London Heathrow.
