Ellery Beach House is a retro-inspired hotel and beach club that takes full advantage of it’s picturesque setting in the Stockholm archipelago. Olivia Palamountain reports
Ellery Beach House is a hotel, beach club and conference centre that celebrates the groove of the 60s and 70s from its island home on Lidingö, in the Stockholm archipelago.
Opened in September 2020, this is the ninth hotel from ESS, a Scandinavian hospitality group that owns Hotel Pigalle, Brasserie Lipp and guest list-only club 8ight.
More than a standard hotel, Ellery Beach House is a venue that does exactly what the name suggests – offer direct access to the beach through its Coco Beach Club.
This concept is a first for the Swedish capital, comprising four swimming pools (heated to at least 33 degrees, 365 days a year), two saunas, a pool club and cabanas, as well as a private jetty for arrivals by boat. 
A boutique offering of spa treatments such as facials, wraps, scrubs and massages are available at Coco Beach, along with two outdoor padel courts (a racket and ball game said of be something of a mixture between tennis and squash), and a gym.
Ellery Beach House appears to have been designed with the loungey Soho House aesthetic in mind – think bumper day beds, swimming pools, three bars with cocktail seating, a cosy fire pit and retro furnishings.
Inspired by the desert oasis vibe of Palm Springs in the 60s and 70s, the resort is a riot of prints, velvet and rattan, offset by tropical plants and clever lighting. The 122 guest rooms and ten conference rooms echo this theme.
It also shares Soho House’s members-only policy, although visitors are welcome for a drink at the Bally Bar or a meal at one of the two restaurants. Day passes for Coco Beach Club are available to buy for one-off visits.
Palmer’s restaurant is a hymn to Mediterranean flavours with a menu that captures the cooking of Israel, Greece and Lebanon, while the Coco Beach Club goes all-in on a Cali-style menu of healthy, colourful salads and easygoing classic dishes.
Weekends welcome the likes of Palmers “Three Martini Brunch”, a jazzy three-course meal and cocktail brunch, set to the sounds of bossa nova, as well as a range of offers that include all the Ellery Beach House highlights at a package price.
