Missippi’s is a rooftop bar in Dubai that promises guests ‘a standout photo op at every turn’, making it perfect for influencers. Sam Ballard reports

Opening in October, Missippi’s pool bar and “social hub” is located at the Avani Ibn Battuta hotel in Dubai. It is a joint venture between party events company Candypants and Livit Hospitality Management and will be a new “new-age urban oasis”.

Counter to pandemic sobriety, renderings show poolside cabanas, inflatable flamingos and an outdoor restaurant bedecked with fairy lights during the evening.

Aesthetically it is a late adopter of the tropical and millennial pink look (the Wi-Ki-Woo hotel in Ibiza did something very similar last year). Flamingos were big in the UK/US all the way back in 2017 and millennial pink in 2016. But trends take time to spread across the world.

“With Missippi’s, we set about bringing something really special to Dubai – a venue that allows guests to escape their everyday stresses, without having to leave the city,” says Ray Chan, owner of Candypants.

Missippi“We are very excited to partner with Livit Hospitality Management who created venues like Cove Beach and Bungalow.

To create this truly unique social concept, and we are confident that the fun-filled atmosphere, accessible prices, exciting food and beverage options, and stunning visual appeal of this social hub are the perfect ingredients to set Missippi’s apart as a home away from home on Dubai’s social scene.”

Last month, Globetrender reported that Dubai now requires tourists to take a Covid-19 PCR test – and receive a negative result – 96 hours before arriving in the emirate.

Charlie Weaving, managing partner of Livit Hospitality Management, says: “Our team is really looking forward to launching Missippi’s, one of six brand-new LIVIT projects planned for the next three months, and we are delighted to bring this truly exciting homegrown concept to life.

“More and more people are looking for standout options on this side of Dubai, and the city’s social scene is screaming out for a fun and accessible venue that excites people. That is why we believe the all-new Avani Ibn Battuta Dubai, just a five-minute drive from popular communities like the Marina, JLT and Jumeirah Park, is the perfect location for Missippi’s.

“We are thrilled to be teaming up with the iconic lifestyle group Candypants on this project, a partnership that enables us to bring our collective experience and expertise to the forefront to make Missippi’s a reality and, of course, a success.

“This is an all-day venue that has it all, where guests can grab breakfast, have a pool-day, or party in the open air at night; we can’t wait to begin welcoming guests this October.”

Missippi’s is not the only new opening to bring out the Dubai’s partygoers. The late superstar architect Zaha Hadid designed the futuristic ME Dubai hotel before she died in 2016. It opened just before lockdown and reopened this summer.

In a statement describing the space, Zaha Hadid Architects said: “During the day, the cube’s façade reflects the sky, the sun and the surrounding city; whilst at night, the void is illuminated by a dynamic light installation of individually controllable LEDs within each glass panel.”
