‘Celebration, revelry and indulgence’ are on the menu with Sorn, a company that fuses fine food and adventure travel. Olivia Palamountain reports

Get-away-from-it-all, personalised foodie escapes from culinary adventure travel outfit Sorn offer luxury and seclusion, at a time when privacy matters more than ever.

Travel and adventure are at the forefront of every Sorn event, coupled with a dedication to champion top quality local, seasonal produce from around the UK.

Each trip and dining experience is designed to order, “with a narrative weaving through it so that clients can discover the story behind the food on their plate,” all fully staffed and prepared by private chefs.Sorn cooking food  Founders Declan Morrison and Sidney Hiscox were inspired to create Sorn after spending summers growing up together on the wild Isle of Islay in Scotland’s West Hebrides.

Foraging in woodlands, smoking wild trout and diving for fresh scallops were among the many experiences that ignited their lifetime passion for turning food into an adventure.  Sorn Foraging Every Sorn experience is completely personalised and no two of our trips are ever the same. We work closely with our clients to fulfill their gastronomic ambitions and combine the finest food and drink with the thrill of adventure, the most sublime settings and unobtrusive but flawless service,” says Sorn.

Private clients – families, friends, corporate groups – can book at-home events or one of Sorn’s wild escapes, arranged in remote locations around the UK. Sorn - TablescapeThese include long weekends on the Isle of Islay – think diving for fresh scallops, tours and tastings at a whisky distillery, and candlelit dinners in a Scottish bothy – or “feast and forage” expeditions to gather wild ingredients with a local expert, followed by an al fresco cook off.Sorn Oysters All escapes are as informal or as decadent as desired and presented in keeping with the theme (day camps can be set up with safari-style tents, seating and decorated tables, for example). Sorn - Fire Feast Unusual highlights are also on the cards, including wood-fired ovens in specially converted Land Rovers and fully stocked mobile bars with an on-site mixologist.

Intimate events have included sunset dinners on the banks of a lake, dinner parties at private home sand a banquet in a decorated hall to celebrate the English black truffle. 

How much does it costs? Rates start from £300 per person based on creating a woodland feast experience, for example, for 20 people. Prices include a half-day foraging expedition and full woodland feast with all food and drink, day camp set up, chefs and staff included.
