Trendy hotel chain The Hoxton is opening Camp Hox for hipster glamping experiences complete with private bathrooms, al fresco Graham’s Port and tonic bars, and proper beds. Jenny Southan reports
“Craving a little country air but not ready to give up your city break comforts? Don’t compromise. Camp Hox is here to give you the best of both,” says the website.
Located on the grounds of 18th-century country manor Eynsham Hall, in Oxfordshire, Camp Hox is an innovative new camping experience from The Hoxton, a group of “open house” hotels across destinations including London, Amsterdam, Chicago, LA and Portland.
Recognising that the pandemic will put some people off staying in hotels and urban locations, it’s an experiment that sees if it can translate some of its services, aesthetics and experiences to a rural setting in tents.
Just 1.5-hours drive from London, Camp Hox is described as an “intimate site” with just 12 lotus tents all with electric power. 
Each tent is features a proper bed (no air mattresses here), Hoxton pillows and duvets, and greenery from Patch plants. A single night costs from £185.
Other amenities include an arm chair, Roberts Radio, coffee- and tea-making facilities, large mirror and rug.
While there are no en suite bathrooms, guests have access to their own private, lockable powder room with a toilet, full-length mirror, towels, Blank toiletries and a hot shower just a two-minutes walk from the tent.
Guests also receive a classic Hox breakfast bag delivered each morning, a fridge stocked with snacks and drinks, a bottle of Altano natural wine, and an outdoor “pour-your-own” Graham’s Port and tonic bar. Pre-ordered food boxes can be ordered at a cost, or residents can bring their own.
There are communal fire pits, plus personal barbecues, kitchen utensils and a complimentary pot-washing service (an excellent touch!). 
Temple Cycles are available for guests to borrow free of charge for exploring the area on wheels.
Sharan Pasricha, founder and CEO of The Hoxton owner, Ennismore, says: “Camp Hox is an idea we’ve been thinking about pulling off for years, but it’s never made as much sense as it does now.
“We know a lot of our guests are still weary to travel into cities, so we put our heads together and thought, let’s give them all the things they love about The Hoxton in the countryside.
“Camp Hox gives everyone the opportunity to escape to the great outdoors for a couple nights, then spend a night with us in London at one of our three Hoxton hotels whenever they’re ready to hit up the city again.”
What’s Camp Hox doing to protect guests from Covid-19? Unlike conventional campsites there are no communal washrooms or showers. Tents are deep cleaned between stays, hand sanitiser will be visible and readily available throughout the site, and anyone with symptoms must not check-in.
Open throughout August 2020, Camp Hox is available to book per tent or as an exclusive take-over for up to 24 people for £2,000 per night.
It offers two deals for individual tent bookings: book two nights and get a free night at any of the three Hoxton hotels in London (when you feel ready) for £370 (prices for two people), or three nights plus a free night in London for £555.
